Toyota Promises to Invest Rp 20 Trillion in Indonesia

The visit of President Joko Widodo to the factory Toyota Motor Corporation in Nagoya, Japan managed to increase the coffers of investment in Indonesia. In front Jokowi, President and CEO Toyota Motor Corporation Akio Toyoda is committed to increase investment in Indonesia ammounted Rp 20 trillion and increase the number of cars exported by 300 percent.

Jokowi explained, he asked Toyota as one of the world's major automotive companies operating in the country through PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) to make Indonesia a production base specialized automobile export to customers worldwide.

"I met the President of Toyota Akio Toyoda, I ask Indonesia serve as a special service for the export product," said Jokowi, quoted from the Secretariat of the Cabinet, on Wednesday (25/3).


"At least I'm equally exports to Thailand. Now Thailand's exports of car Toyota 700 thousand, while Indonesia only 200 thousand, before we can commitment", he said.

Hiroyuki Fukui, President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) try to explain this plan on the sidelines of the launch of the New Camry, in Jakarta, Wednesday (04/02/2015). Fukui said the investment of Rp 20 trillion, which submitted a sustainability investment commitment ever agreed upon in 2012 ago.

At that time, TMC CEO Akio Toyoda met former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to discuss investment issues. Toyota announced it would immerse investment of Rp 13 trillion for the expansion of production and business in Indonesia. 

"It's already done (Rp 13 trillion) initially for the period of 2012 to 2016, but then accelerated and completed investment in just three years and has completed this year (2015)," said Fukui.

"So it is now beginning to invest again at the same level (Rp 13 trillion) as a group with the Toyota group, including Daihatsu, Hino and others. In fact, every year we have new investment, for which it prepared for the new period of the next five years." Fukui saying.

The first phase investment was one of them to establish a second assembly plant in Karawang, West Java, which are now starting to assemble Vios for domestic needs and export. Vios initial export has been carried out since March 2014 last. Toyota Indonesia also had to build a third plant to produce the new engine. 

Toyota predicted to make Indonesia as the world's largest export base. Until now, Toyota Indonesia managed to export about 200,000 units of cars. Toyota models in exports was Fortuner, Innova, Avanza, Vios, Yaris, and Agya. Most of the Toyota car export destination is sent to the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and ASEAN.
